Bert Baeck

Bert Baeck is a Belgian serial entrepreneur and industrial artificial intelligence veteran with over 20 years of experience in the technology sector. He currently serves as the Founder and CEO of Timeseer.AI while maintaining a role as Partner at a venture capital firm.

Baeck operates as a unique VC/operator hybrid, bringing both entrepreneurial and investment expertise to his work. He previously served as Partner at SmartFin Capital, a venture capital firm managing €750 million in assets under management (AUM). His investment background provides him with valuable insights into venture capital readiness and fundraising strategies.

As a serial entrepreneur, Baeck co-founded and served as CEO of TrendMiner, a successful technology company that was acquired by Software AG in 2018. This exit demonstrated his ability to build and scale technology companies in the industrial AI space.

Currently, he leads Timeseer.AI as Founder and CEO, continuing his focus on artificial intelligence applications in industrial settings.

Baeck leverages his dual experience as both entrepreneur and venture capitalist to advise founders on VC readiness. His unique perspective from "both sides of the table" allows him to provide valuable guidance to startups seeking investment.

His technical expertise spans multiple domains including Internet of Things (IoT) and Operational Technology (OT), artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), time-series and streaming data analytics, DataOps and observability, and data governance frameworks.

Baeck holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Micro-Electronics from Ghent University, providing him with a strong technical foundation for his work in industrial AI and data analytics.

Bert Baeck has a Master in Science in ML/AI and was previously Entrepreneur In Residence and Partner at Smartfin Capital from 2019. He was also Director of the Board at VersaSense and Roamler. He founded and sold TrendMiner (acquired by Software AG) before starting Timeseer.AI in 2020. He's also a 70.3 IronMan finisher and speaks at major industry conferences including Hannover Messe 2023 and various AI summits.
