Gianluca Di Taranto is a Belgian sommelier, wine director, and hospitality entrepreneur with over two decades of experience in fine dining and wine curation. Born to a Puglian father and Brussels-born mother, he has established himself as one of Belgium's most accomplished wine professionals through his work at renowned establishments across Europe.
Di Taranto began his full-time career in gastronomy in 2003 as a sommelier and wine director at Spiga d'Oro, his family's restaurant in Mechelen. Over the years, he has contributed to some of Europe's most acclaimed dining establishments, including three-Michelin-starred venues Zilte and Osteria Francescana in Modena, as well as Piazza Duomo in Alba. He also worked with two-Michelin-starred The Jane in Antwerp and the Michelin-starred Sanglier Durbuy Adventures group in Durbuy.
Di Taranto holds numerous prestigious wine credentials, including the Sommelier-Conseil Diploma, WSET Diploma, and ASI Gold Diploma. He is one of only two VIA Italian Wine Ambassadors in Belgium. His competitive achievements include winning Best Sommelier of Belgium in both 2019 and 2020, Gault & Millau Best Sommelier in 2018, Best Sommelier of Copa Jerez 2025, and Best Winelist of BeLux in 2025.
As an author, Di Taranto has written the "Wine Class" book series, published by Lannoo for the Belgian market. His expertise spans wine sourcing, curation, strategic development, and market insight, developed through his dual experience in restaurant operations and the wine industry.
Di Taranto is currently developing Ca'Vista, an integrated hospitality concept combining wine import and retail, restaurant, wine bar, event space, and boutique bed & breakfast. Located in Keerbergen, strategically positioned near Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, and Mechelen, Ca'Vista is scheduled to open in January 2027. The project represents his comprehensive vision for hospitality centered around wine expertise and guest experience.
